100 Goals: Day 19 - File Management
100 Goals In 100 Days | Nineteen
I have lots and lots of files on my computer. They fall into one of three categories:
- I want to keep the files and they are in the right location.
- I want to keep the files and they are not in the right location.
- I do not want to keep the files and they are in various locations.
Of those I wish to keep, a lot simply need to be archived and/or backed-up to some sort of storage media (I use Taiyo Yuden DVD-R for their reliability and durability).
Today's goal was to spend fifteen minutes each day on file management—not a significant time investment, just enough to make a little progress every day. To provide for flexibility, this is more of a weekly time commitment of between 1.5 and 2 hours to file management. It need not be done every day if I'm running behind on time that day.
I may apply this idea of flexibility to other goals as well (perhaps even those enacted thus far). My intuition seems to think this tactic should be used sparingly, however—lest things get put off repeatedly until I owe some task, say file management, way too many cumulative hours. Fair evaluation of time and moderate self-discipine should prevent this.
I'm rather tired right now. I honestly have no idea how I'm going to accomplish eighty additional things in the next eighty days.
